"Glued to the Tube" and "A One-Eyed Invader in the Bedroom"
Before
Survey the students about their TV watching habits. Ask them how many hours a day they spend in front of the TV and if they have a TV in their bedrooms.
During
Students will use the two-column chart to guide their reading of the “Glued to the Tube” article. Students can work together in small groups to read and complete the chart. The video clip will give you an example of how this was done in my class.
Students will then read the article, “One-Eyed Invader in the Bedroom”. They will use selective highlighting as they read. They will highlight the effects of having a TV in the bedroom.

After
Students will complete a multi-flow map showing the effects of having a TV in the bedroom and the write a paragraph giving their opinion on whether a TV should stay in the bedroom. See example.
