Henry Box Brown
Before
Have students make a rectangular prism or cube from construction paper. Talk about the features of a box. Show students a box with the approximate dimensions of the one Henry Brown was in. Pose the question, “Could you sit still in that box for more than 27 hours?” Then ask the same question again, but add “ What if your life depended on it?”
During
Read the Picture Book, Henry’s Freedom Box to the class. Then have students read A Special Delivery using interactive notes.
After
Students will complete a RAFT assignment. They can choose from the following:
